The Tropical Fish Reference Guide v1.0
Copyright (c) 1993, Don MacElrath. All rights reserved.
Introduction
Thank you for trying The Tropical Fish Reference Guide. I have been
an active aquarist for a number of years, but by no means would I
consider myself an expert. This is my attempt to try and bring
together two wonderful and exciting worlds; the personal computer and
tropical fish keeping. I think everyone will agree that something
like this has been needed for a long time.
This is a preliminary version to determine if there is a market for
such a program. I'm sorry to have to say that this is being released
as SHAREWARE (user supported software). This version is not crippled,
but it does have one of those annoying please register messages. <g>
Without your support there will almost certainly be no future
versions. Research is time consuming, tedious and expensive. If you
find this program useful, then please do you part in supporting it.
See REGISTER.DOC & ORDER.FRM for more information.
Disclaimer
This software and information contained herein, is provided 'AS IS',
without warranty of any kind, either expressed or implied.
Although I have taken measure to insure that the information
provided by this program is accurate, in no event will I be held
responsible for any damages, including, but not limited to, any lost
profits, loss of fish, lost savings or other incidental or
consequential damages arising from the use of this program.
By installing or using this software, you acknowledge that you have
read this agreement, understand it, and agree to be bound by its
terms and conditions.
Requirements
This program was written on a 386 based system with VGA. I tried to
track down a monochrome monitor for testing, but I didn't have any
luck. Although this program isn't graphically oriented, it does make
use of colors for the menuing system etc. It does work if I force my
VGA monitor into monochrome emulation. If you should find a problem,
just report it and I'll try and correct it ASAP.
Installation
Copy all the files in the archive to a directory of your choice.
Directory names such as AWESOME or GREAT work rather well. <grin>
Prior to running the software, you will need to change into the
program directory. Sample batch file included.
Program
The actual program is fairly simple to use. The menus are access via
the arrow keys, enter key, escape key, and the fish library has the
addition of page up and page down. Nothing to fancy or complicated.
The fish library currently has over 70 individual fish entries.
When reviewing the individual records, you may notice some fields have
a number in parenthesis (mostly the temperature field). This is to
let you know what the optimum temperature should be.
I'm sure there will be some problems somewhere along the way. I
really do need a break from this for a while, so I thought now was as
good a time as any to release it. If you should find any errors, just
drop me a note and I'll get to it, eventually <grin>.

Conclusion
I'm going to end the documentation here. If my program is really that
hard that you can't figure it out, then I really didn't do a very good
job in programming it, did I?
I know that there is a lot more information to be added, so be sure to
do your part and register. Future versions will not be available if
there is no demand.
